The 5 Stages of a Crohn’s Flare

Living with Crohn’s means flares can hit at any time. Here’s the emotional rollercoaster we all go through:

1️⃣ Denial

“I’m fine. This is probably just something I ate.”
(Narrator: It was not something she ate.)

2️⃣ Panic

“Oh no. It’s happening. Why now? Why me?!”
Bathroom? Located. Plans? Canceled.

3️⃣ Regret

“Why did I eat that??”
“Why did I leave the house??”
“Why did I make eye contact with dairy??”

4️⃣ Bargaining

“Okay, body, if you let me survive this, I swear I’ll eat nothing but plain rice forever.”

5️⃣ Acceptance

“Welp. Time to move into the bathroom for the next few hours.”
I grab my phone, settle in, and let nature take its course.

The Crohn’s Cycle™—because what else can we do?
