I used to push through. I used to believe that being a good mom meant showing up 100% all the time, no matter what my body was doing. But Crohn’s doesn’t care about my to-do list. It doesn’t care that my kids need breakfast, help with school projects, or that I promised to take them to the park.
So, I had to learn something important: Rest is not weakness.
My kids have seen me on my good days—dancing in the kitchen, playing board games, helping with homework. But they’ve also seen me curled up on the couch, holding my stomach, fighting exhaustion. And you know what? They’ve learned to be gentle. They’ve learned that moms need care too.
On flare days, we make adjustments. Movie marathons replace outings. Simple meals replace elaborate ones. And most importantly, I remind myself that showing my kids it’s okay to listen to your body is one of the best lessons I can teach them.
Stay Strong!
