Eating out with Crohn’s is like playing a very high-stakes game. One wrong move, and my night is ruined.
Here’s how I navigate the restaurant world without completely hating my life:
✔ I check the menu ahead of time. That way, I’m not scrambling at the table, trying to find one safe option.
✔ I ask for modifications (without shame). No sauce, no seasoning, plain grilled proteins? Yes, I am that person.
✔ My go-to safe meals:
🍗 Grilled chicken with plain rice – The safest of safe options.
🐟 Salmon with steamed veggies – Simple but satisfying.
🍲 Soup (but only if I trust the broth) – Some soups are sneaky with hidden spices.
✔ I avoid “risky” foods. Fried foods, dairy-heavy dishes, and anything labeled “spicy” are a hard no.
✔ I always have an exit plan. Because when Crohn’s strikes, you need to leave FAST.
Dining out isn’t easy, but with a little planning (and a lot of caution), I can mostly avoid disaster.
Stay Strong!
