The extraintestinal manifestations of Crohn’s disease in some patients are more disabling than the bowel problems.

1st of all, you talk to your doctor about an accurate diagnosis of the disease. So you know what type of bowel condition you are dealing with.  Then, make sure to not only talk about the actual diseased portion but also any extraintestinal problems you have.
2ndly, talk about induction of remission. You want that to in essence focus on the inflammation, and turning off all the problems that go along with the active bowel disease, such as diarrhea or pain or bleeding or urgency.
Once you succeed in inducing remission, you can move onto maintenance of remission and keeping yourself  healthy and doing well for as long as you can to prevent relapses of the disease.
Lastly, you want to achieve an unrestricted quality of life. And if we don’t approach your individual disease by using these goals and reminding ourselves of what these goals are as we go along, we may be turning off the bowel inflammation but forgetting that our individual body (system) is having trouble walking or getting to school or not able to function in the rest of life. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
