Crohn’s Disease can differ from person to person, so it is always best to find out what works for you and keep a log of that. Whether it be supplements, drugs or a meal plan, keep a journal. What’s right for one person might not be right for you-so it is important to recognize that. Work with your doctor to learn as much as you can about Crohn’s disease treatment options, and find the treatment that meets your individual needs. And don’t wait—the sooner you and your doctor identify a treatment plan, the sooner you may be able to start controlling your symptoms.
There are 5 basic categories of medications available to treat the symptoms of Crohn’s, including:
•Aminosalicylates (5-ASA’s)
•Corticosteroids
•Immune modifiers (Immunomodulators)
•Biologic therapies (Biologics)
•Antibiotics
I was on these and more when I first started with the treatment protocol. I discovered that after 2 years of the drugs and 78 pounds heavier that they weren’t working for me. My homeopathic doctor asked me why I stay on them if they are not improving the symptoms. She obviously woke me up a little. I started inquiring and researching for myself instead of listening to my cookie cutter Gastro doc. After weeks of research I’ve found that natural and herbal remedies work better for me and I chose to end my drug protocol.
I started with a pro-biotic, fish oils, Aloe Vera juice, 500mg of glutamine per day, Inflamacore (intestinal soother), adrenal supplements and the Myers Cocktail given intravenously. I can’t tell you how I wish that someone, anyone would have given this protocol to me 4 years earlier. My life has changed due to this new regimen. No more pain, passing out, vomiting, and most of all regular bowl movements. But before you embarq on a new treatment regime or create a custom plan for yourself, please speak with your medical physician first. Because of the severity of our disease, consulting first may save you troubles later.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I do occasionally get a flare-up for no reason as that is just the nature of the beast. But at least I am not on those harsh drugs anymore. The prednisone caused major eye problems and swelling not to mention massive weight gain. I can honestly say I don’t even feel like I have Crohn’s disease. If you are at your wits end and tired of the harsh chemical look into finding a doctor that believes in natural remedies and schedule a consult. That 10 minutes may just save your life!
God Bless~
